I gave it a taste to make sure it was worth trying again, and it tasted TERRIBLE! I choked down the one sip and promptly poured the rest down the drain. Aside from its beautiful color (which is artificially added), blue curaao tends to be sweeter than triple sec. Blue margaritas replace triple sec with another type of alcoholic orange liqueur, blue curaao. These are the Blue Margarita ingredients: 1 ½ ounce Tequila, 100 agave. A traditional margarita is made with just three ingredients: tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.

The layering didn’t work at all (apparently you have to actually plan the layers based on the density of each ingredient), so it was sort of a bluish-brown mess. Ingredients 3 ounces fresh lime juice 5 ounces silver tequila 2 1/2 ounces blue curacao liqueur 2 ounces agave nectar or to taste coarse salt for glass rim. You’ll only need three simple ingredients and a few minutes of your time to make it. This was A LOT of flavors in one drink, which is not typically my style, but I was sure it would taste OK if not better.įolks, my version was all kinds of wrong. If desired, rub some lime juice around the rim of a margarita glass and press it into. Taste the margarita and add the optional dash of the sweet and sour mix if needed. Add some ice to it, make sure to crush it well.

Of course I wanted to make it my own, so I substituted pomegranate liqueur (I found a tiny trial-sized bottle for this purpose) for the grenadine and orange juice for the pineapple juice because that’s what I had on hand. To begin, fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then add 1.5 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of blue curacao, and 1 ounce of lime juice. Pour and shake the tequila, blue curacao, and lime in a shaker. Gorgeous, no? Please note that the recipe is really just a list of ingredients without instructions, but I was sure it was just a matter of slow pouring to get the beautiful layered effect.
